A Conservative’s Conflict: Questioning Trump.

Hello friends and fellow patriots,

As a lifelong conservative, a Southern boy born and bred, I’ve always taken pride in voting for the candidates who represent the values I hold dear: hard work, personal responsibility, faith, and a deep love for our country. I grew up in a community where these principles were not just taught but lived every day. It’s been my guiding star, the foundation upon which I’ve built my life and my career as a teacher.

In the last election, despite my reservations about Donald Trump, I cast my vote for him. Like many of y’all, I couldn’t bring myself to support Hillary Clinton, whose policies and ideals stood in stark contrast to my own. I believed that voting Republican was the only option to preserve the conservative values we cherish.

However, recent events have forced me to take a hard look at the man who currently leads our party. Trump’s multiple convictions have raised serious questions about his character and his suitability for the highest office in our land. As someone who believes deeply in the rule of law and the integrity of our democratic institutions, I can no longer ignore the red flags.

Trump’s rhetoric has always been polarizing, but as I scrutinized his words and actions with a more critical eye, my concerns grew. His frequent attacks on our democratic institutions, his blatant disregard for truth, and his divisive tactics are not the marks of a leader who truly values the principles of democracy. Instead, they are the traits of someone who seeks power at any cost, even if it means undermining the very foundations of our republic.

This realization has left me in a profound state of conflict. I am, at my core, a conservative. I believe in limited government, fiscal responsibility, and the preservation of our traditions. Yet, I find myself unable to reconcile these beliefs with the actions and character of Donald Trump.

The easy path would be to stay silent, to continue voting the party line and hope for the best. But I cannot in good conscience do that. I owe it to my students, my community, and myself to stand up for what is right, even if it means going against the grain.

To my fellow conservatives, I understand the fear of what might happen if we don’t vote RED. I share that fear. But I also believe that our party, and our country, deserve better. We deserve leaders who inspire, who unite, and who uphold the principles of democracy with honor and integrity.

I don’t have all the answers, and I’m not sure what my final decision will be when I step into the voting booth. But I do know this: our loyalty should be to our country and our values, not to a single individual. We must demand better from our leaders, and we must hold them accountable when they fall short.

It’s a difficult path, filled with uncertainty and doubt. But I believe that by confronting these challenges head-on, we can help steer our party back to its true north. We can ensure that the conservative movement remains a force for good, a beacon of hope for future generations.

In the end, my hope is that we can come together, not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans committed to preserving the democracy that has been entrusted to us. It’s a tall order, but it’s a fight worth fighting.

God bless,

John “Jack” Carter
